Introducing:

I, Ferguson Rapu have known Roberta Onyekwelu for thirty-seven years. She is my sister-in-law.

Roberta was brought up as a Christian; she is a devoted catholic, wedded in the catholic church and brought up her children in the catholic faith.

​

Roberta has a son who has special needs. This was a big challenge for the family and as a mother, she was heavily occupied physically and emotionally with the responsibility of looking after her children and keeping a full-time job. As her son grew older, the problems grew with him and so did Roberta’s challenges and pain increase. This carried on for many years until suddenly, Roberta’s physiognomy started showing genuine peace and relaxed disposition, indicating that something positive had happened.

One area I recall when Roberta motivated and transformed another was when she helped a young woman from an unstable lone parent home to get a job and she mentored her, inspired her with personal development and career mindedness. This young person’s life has transformed and she is now a young professional.  

​

Roberta is a professional in the Social Services Department who has served in various capacities and with empathy, has gone out of her way to help many families experiencing challenges.

​

Roberta belongs to three women’s community organisations where she plays leadership roles and have that opportunity to help with advice and support. She is also a very active member of her parish where she serves as a reader, and a member of the choir. In every community she finds herself, she never stops to give advice and support to mothers who are having challenges with their children.

​

Considering the new energy, passion and drive in Roberta, I strongly believe that she has a story to tell of how she transformed her pain to purpose and I believe that many people would benefit from the story of how Roberta accepted her challenges, tackled them head-on, and emerged with energy and passion for helping others
